Suspended above the Mediterranean in the hills of Théoule-sur-Mer (just outside Cannes), the iconic Palais Bulles—the Bubble Palace—remains one of architecture’s most whimsical and visionary residences. Conceived by architect Antti Lovag between 1975 and 1989 for industrialist Pierre Bernard and later acquired by fashion pioneer Pierre Cardin in 1992, this 1,200 m² masterpiece fuses futuristic fantasy with organic design.
Lovag’s philosophy rejected right angles in favor of curves—he called straight lines “an aggression against nature.” The result is a cluster of interlocking bubbles: spherical salons, capsule-like bedrooms, flowing passageways, and panoramic terraces wrapped around three pools. A dramatic open-air amphitheatre (≈500 seats) crowns the complex, framing the Côte d’Azur like a stage set.
Inside, ten sculptural bedrooms, lush gardens and the signature terracotta-pink domes have hosted couture shows, editorials and unforgettable soirées—perfectly aligning avant-garde architecture with Riviera extravagance. Hoch über dem Mittelmeer, im Felsgürtel von Théoule-sur-Mer bei Cannes, thront das legendäre Palais Bulles – ein Wohnkunstwerk aus organischen Kuppeln und schwebenden Terrassen. Entworfen von Antti Lovag (1975–1989) für Pierre Bernard und 1992 von Pierre Cardin erworben, vereint die rund 1.200 m² große Anlage futuristische Vision mit natürlicher Formensprache.
Lovag verzichtete bewusst auf rechte Winkel und stellte Kurven ins Zentrum – als harmonische Antwort auf Natur und Körper. So entstand ein Kosmos aus miteinander verbundenen „Blasen“: kugelige Salons, Kapsel-Suiten, fließende Übergänge, drei Poollandschaften und ein dramatisches Freiluft-Amphitheater mit Meerblick. Die rosa Terrakotta-Schalen und die üppigen Gärten wurden zur Bühne für Couture-Shows, Editorials und legendäre Feste – ein Sinnbild für die Extravaganz der Côte d’Azur.
Das Bubble Palace ist mehr als eine Villa: Es ist ein Statement – an der Schnittstelle von Architektur, Kultur und Lifestyle.
