Limited Edition Fiat 500 Spiaggina ’58 – A Birthday Tribute to an Italian Icon

Italy, Summer 2018 — A gentle sea breeze drifts along the coast of Capri. Luxurious yachts gleam under the Mediterranean sun, and on the pier, a small open-top car awaits to take its passengers into the Dolce Vita of Italian nights: the Fiat 500 Jolly — affectionately called Spiaggina, meaning “deck chair.” The original 1958 Fiat 500 Jolly was a “beach car,” created for seaside drives and carefree summers.

Exactly 60 years later, Fiat revives this spirit of freedom and joy with the Fiat 500 Spiaggina ’58 — a limited-edition model released on July 4th, the birthday of the iconic Fiat 500. Only 1,958 units will be produced, each featuring elegant details that capture the essence of Italian style and the charm of the 1950s.

A Tribute to the Dolce Vita

The Fiat 500 Spiaggina ’58 is a true celebration of La Dolce Vita. Its body gleams in Volare Blue, the convertible top shines in ivory, and a delicate white trim runs along the sides — all inspired by the carefree elegance of the Amalfi coast. The retro Fiat logos, 16-inch vintage-style wheels, and “Spiaggina” script on the rear complete this nostalgic design.

Inside, sophistication meets playfulness: a Volare Blue dashboard, striped two-tone seats, chrome accents, and a steering wheel featuring the historic Fiat emblem. The model comes with a modern infotainment system featuring Uconnect™ HD LIVE with a 7-inch display, Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and digital radio (DAB). Comfort is ensured by automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, and handcrafted interior detailing.

The Spirit of Freedom and Design

Two petrol engines are available — the 1.2L 8V (69 HP) and the TwinAir 0.9L (85 HP) — blending efficiency with Italian style. The Spiaggina ’58 continues the Fiat 500 legacy, joining special editions such as the Fiat 500 by Diesel, Fiat 500 by Gucci, Fiat 500 Riva, and Fiat 500 60th Birthday.

To mark the anniversary, Fiat produced an emotional short film set to the legendary Italian song “Volare” — first performed in 1958 at the Sanremo Music Festival. The film perfectly captures the sunny, joyful spirit of the Spiaggina ’58 as it cruises along Italy’s southern coast.

Garage Italia x Pininfarina – A Love Letter to Italian Design

As part of the celebration, Garage Italia and Pininfarina unveiled the spectacular “Spiaggina by Garage Italia” showcar — a reinterpretation of the Fiat 500C convertible. The car’s body features a shortened windshield, a nautical-inspired cork rear deck reminiscent of yacht wood, and Foglizzo’s waterproof leather in blue and white tones.

Lapo Elkann, Chairman of Garage Italia, explains: “The Fiat 500 was love at first sight — a car that symbolizes joy, optimism, and Italy’s creative soul. The Spiaggina by Garage Italia is our tribute to those magical years of post-war dreams and freedom.”

Silvio Pietro Angori, CEO of Pininfarina, adds: “Creativity and craftsmanship define this collaboration. Like the 1950s Beach Car ‘Eden Roc,’ the Spiaggina unites technology, artistry, and Italian passion in one unforgettable piece of design.”

A Timeless Symbol of Italian Joy

The Fiat 500 Spiaggina ’58 is more than a car — it’s a lifestyle. A symbol of sun, style, and simplicity. A bridge between generations, reminding us that freedom is best enjoyed with the top down and a song in your heart.
